Rayfield Claimed He Is A Garifuna

Bluefields, RAAS, Mar. 23-The Garifuna community from the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua is in a state of disbelief. This is after former governor and current council member Rayfield Hodgson, a Creole, tried to portray himself as a true Garifuna. It all started when Rayfield Hodgson learned that a delegation of Garifunas would be visiting the Caribbean coast and that money may be involved. The delegation is comprised of members from Honduras, Belize and St. Vincent.

Kensy Sambola, head of OAGANIC, the only Garifuna Organization in Nicaragua told us today in a telephone interview that Rayfield went as far as forming his own Garifuna organization in hopes of collecting money in the name of the Garifuna people. A church mass was scheduled this morning to bless the organization but only Rayfield and the delegation showed up. No true Garifuna wants to be a part of Rayfield’s scheme even if it meant not getting any financial assistance. Father Joel Brown from the Catholic Church also voiced his disapproval for what Rayfield is trying to do.

$$$$ The dollar sign apparently took over Rayfield’s common sense after he learned that the delegation maybe preparing to sue the British government for reparation. Rayfield told the OAGANIC organization “money is involve here and you don’t work with people who don’t have money and OAGANIC does not have any money."

We will follow this story and bring you any new development as we get them.
